With a training session underway at Nadovu Park this morning, the Vikings are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for glory.

Representing Jasper Williams High School, one of the prominent contenders in the Pherrus Schoolgirls Championship, the Vikings have secured their spot in the National finals series scheduled to commence on Saturday, April 13th, at Prince Charles Park in Nadi. Their journey to this stage has been marked by resilience, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence.

Assisting the coaching staff of Jasper Williams High School is Solomoni Ratu, the Muaira Development Manager. Ratu’s guidance and expertise have played a crucial role in shaping the team’s performance throughout the season. Expressing confidence in the talent pool nurtured within the school system, Ratu believes that the players across the national schoolgirls competition possess the necessary skills to compete at the state level.

“It’s a privilege to be part of the schools system working with such amazing talents and leaders,” says Ratu. “Teachers have really put in a great amount of effort to developing school students in this pathway, and I have observed that our Schoolgirls players have what it takes to compete in the Vanua Origin games.”

Ratu is hopeful that the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) will consider expanding opportunities for girls in the sport, particularly by opening up the Girls U19 Youth Cup in the Vanua State of Origin this year. Such initiatives not only promote gender equality in sports but also provide aspiring young athletes with a platform to showcase their abilities on a larger stage.

“It will be a boost to younger girls to see the best from the west be part of our Youth program,” adds Ratu, emphasizing the importance of representation and inspiration for the next generation of female rugby players.

As the anticipation builds for the upcoming finals and the prospect of national competition looms on the horizon, the Jasper Vikings stand poised and ready to make their mark. With the support of their coaches and community behind them, they are indeed out to hunt – not just for victory on the field, but for the opportunity to inspire and pave the way for future generations of rugby stars.
